Mission: Genome
About Our Partnership
Rocket Pharma’s partnership with Genome Medical provides clinicians and their patients with telehealth genetic counseling services. Through the Mission: Genome program, Rocket is committed to helping clinicians and their patient with genetic cardiomyopathies by educating on the use of genetic testing, removing barriers to counseling and testing, and supporting earlier diagnoses and access to care. This partnership will potentially help to advance medical knowledge and science, and help speed up the development of new gene therapies by accurately identifying patients who have these rare conditions.
Genetic counselors can provide clinicians with answers to questions about genetic testing which may help them determine if testing is right for their patients.
For patients and caregivers, genetic counselors can provide expert guidance on genetic testing options, answer questions to help inform if genetic testing is right for them, and determine whether they meet the eligibility criteria for Mission: Genome.
Genetic Counseling and Genetic Counselors
Genetic counseling is the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological, and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease.1
Genetic counselors are licensed medical providers trained in counseling and genetic principles that span many medical specialties including rare disease (pediatric and adult conditions), cardiology, obstetrics, oncology, and neurology.1 They help guide and support patients who want to learn how genetic conditions might affect them or their families. Genetic counselors also help interpret and explain a person’s unique genetic test results and help patients and caregivers make more informed healthcare decisions.2
Genetic counselors are specifically trained to2:
Help you understand how your personal and familial medical history may impact your health
Discuss genetic testing options that may be appropriate for you
Explain what genetic test results mean for you and your family members
Address any questions or concerns you have about genetic testing
Provide recommendations for you and your healthcare provider to help make more informed medical and treatment decisions
